Plastic Moving Totes vs. Cardboard Boxes

Every move starts with the same question: where am I going to get boxes? The default answer used to be a trip to the home improvement store, an awkward stack of free liquor-store cardboard, or both. Today there's a better option — reusable plastic moving totes. Here's how the two stack up.

Cost

Compare the cost of boxes, tape and padding with the rental length you need. New and reused cardboard prices vary, so there is no guaranteed saving for every move. Our 3-bedroom package includes 50 totes for $220 for one week, for customer pickup and return in McKinney. Optional delivery and pickup costs extra.

Durability

Cardboard can weaken when damp or overloaded. Rigid plastic totes are a reusable alternative, but fragile belongings still need padding. Keep heavy items low, avoid overpacking and use manageable loads rather than treating a tote's capacity as a lifting target.

Speed

No box assembly. No tape gun. No flap that won't stay closed. Totes open, fill, snap shut. The uniform shape makes it easier to organize a truck load than mismatched cardboard boxes. Packing time still depends on your belongings and how you prepare.

Environmental impact

Cardboard recycling depends on local rules and whether boxes are clean and dry. Rental totes are returned for reuse, so you do not need to dispose of moving boxes after each rental.

When cardboard still wins

Cardboard is the right choice for shipping items, long-distance moves where you can't return rentals, and storage that needs to last years. For a local move in North Texas, totes offer a reusable, stackable alternative.

The bottom line

If you're moving inside Frisco, McKinney, Allen, Plano, or Prosper, rent the totes. You can skip box assembly and return the empty totes after unpacking. See our package pricing or request a free quote.
